Wearable Device
6 min 47 sec
In Trevor Lalaguna's sculpture class, I constructed this helmet by removing the inner parts of a Mac Plus and mounting an iPad where the screen would be. The iPad receives and displays live streaming video of my face from a webcam onto the screen. An integrated iPhone with video calling allows me to hear, see, and talk with others near the device. Collectively, the device explores identity theft, real-time communications, and retro-futurism.
After the project was complete, I worked with my friend DJ Kid Chameleon to use the helmet in his live performances. A video of the his performance with the helmet was posted on several mainstream technology blogs and quickly went viral with over 100,000 views in its first month online.

MIDI Controlled Projections
7 min 53 sec
In this video, I am using the drums from the video game RockBand to control video projections through a custom interface I designed running on my laptop. Meanwhile, a Wiimote is being passed around the audience, allowing them to interact with the performance by adding different effects. The webcam on my laptop is also integrated into one of the visualizer scenes, giving the audience a close-up view of my movements. The audio was done separately using Ableton Live and a MIDI controller keyboard.

In Cyrus Lemmon's 2D design class we were asked to assemble two collages from photographs and use them to make two compositions. One using primary colors and another with secondary/tertiary colors. I decided to complete the assignment entirely using digital processes, including assembling the collage in Photoshop and drawing a vector image in Illustrator using the assigned color palette.

In Jennifer Meadow's Studio Video class, I wrote and produced a commercial to sell packaged air in several varieties in a sixty second infomercial format. The parent company of our products would be AIR, which is an acronym for the phrase: “Always is refreshing.” We followed the traditional commercial format: get the viewers attention, keep it, present the problem, and explain our solution. The problem in this case was polluted air and our solution was pre-packaged air from unpolluted places.

By using data from my wireless telephone records, this map was constructed to illustrate calls made from Chicago back to my hometown in California. Each line illustrates the path of the call while the width of the line corresponds to the length of each call. To distinguish both locations from each other, the paths of major highways within each city are shown. Furthermore, the background of the composition features the waveform of myself saying "Hello, how are you?" and "Nice talking to you, goodbye."

This short-film is a modern-day interpretation of Plato's Allegory of the Cave. It deals with media overstimulation, materialism, and my personal quest for knowledge.
